Not sure why canon connect doesn’t allow USB to connect to the camera? I can use wireless etc. and using another app Camera Connect and Control I can use USB no problems so have Canon just stopped it in the software?

When you say cannon connect I think of the smart phone connect application. https://www.usa.canon.com/mobile-apps/camera-connect

For file transfer to computer you are using the supplied cord, usb c connectivity and the EOS Utility for your camera and OS correct?

Just the camera connect where you control the camera live view etc. With the R5 I can use wireless etc. but this can be unreliable and laggy. Using a USB connection is better in my opinion. I believe it can be done with the R6ii but not available on R5 but as I say no problem with other apps and USB. So I’m assuming Canon have just for some reason stopped this functionality in their software (Canon Connect). Just would be useful to me and I’m sure others.

Yeah I have no way to tether my Iphone to my dslr with lightning so I cant confirm this but I don't recall that existing for android users either unless it is new to the R6 and then I would assume it also applies to the R5 if its new, but you definitely have tether options with a laptop & the EOS utility or Lightroom using the supplied cables.

The annoying thing is if I use the lightning to USB adapter on my iPhone and then the use the correct canon data cable usb 3 to usb c and the Camera connect and control (a third party app) I get full control of the R5 so the technology works but canon have decided not to have it available in the Canon connect app for the R5. Had to use the original Canon usb c to usb 3 cable and the Apple lightening to usb else it won’t work. Other cable set ups might work just only found this set up worked.

Use alternative options like the EOS Utility or Lightroom with the provided cables.
