So I’m looking to shoot video. I have an old but like new Canon 50D. Should I just install Magic Lantern or should I consider upgrading to something like a used T7i or a 90D. I’ve been out of the camera loop for quite some time and don’t know if the new advancements are worth purchasing one of these newer models. Appreciate the advice.
I don't think Magic lantern has been updated and supported in years. You may want to research there. The 50d is def a bit older so I wouldn't blame ya for wanting to upgrade a little, you may not have to got to something as new as the 90d. The 7t type models or any other rebel series model may feel like a bit of a downgrade as they are a consumer line(even if specs are noticeably higher), more plastic in feel and are not as manual and configurable with options so I would probably opt to stay in the middle XXD line at the least. Heck I would really consider grabbing a 7dII over the 90d, or going full frame and getting a 6dII or 5dIV .... all of which i like better than the 90d for the money If i were you...you may as well make the upgrade a new 10 year investment. The higher end stuff has come down a lot because of mirror-less being the main camera line the last few years, the mid tier like the 80/90d is still holding value because of the lower tier models aren't going down much further . Which has compressed prices into a narrow band of features vs age. What sort of lens lineup do you have? Is it worth investing in a really solid body and a very discounted price?
Really appreciate the response. I’m slowly coming to the same conclusions the more I research. The T7 series is definitely more budget than the XXD line, but the low cost is appealing. I’m going to start to research the other 3 cameras you mentioned. As for lenses all I have left from before is the stock 28-135mm IS that the camera came with and the EF 50mm. So basically I don’t have much. Again, thank you for the advice.
