Good Morning all, I am having a slightly (now very annoying) issue with my Canon 7D Mark ii. When I initially power the camera on, regardless of which mode is currently selected on the dial, none of the buttons (Menu / Info / Q / Image Preview) do anything with the LCD Screen. The only way I can remedy this is to turn the dial, to a different setting and then return it to the setting I want to shoot in. Once the dial has been turned, all the buttons appear to work fine... I use the "Q" button regularly, as the smaller screen on top of the body is not great for my failing eyesight!! Is there any way I can remedy this? (I have ran a firmware update etc and it is all up to date). Thanks in advance for any advice
It sounds like there may be a pinched wire or something shorting out the camera on startup, where the dial turn is somehow remedying it, though I don't see why that would work. But my gut is saying this is a motherboard/electrical issue. Did this start after the camera took good shake/hard tap? That said If it was me, I probably would give the camera a a firm (hard) tap on a table and see if that jars what ever is causing the short back into its proper place. Otherwise you may have to live with the glitch to the camera fails worse. You could get a repair quote from canon but its probably more than you want to spend given the age/cost of another.
Thanks, I have given the camera a good shake, and a firm tap underneath with my hand (I didn't want to use the table or the missus would lynch me)!! I am still having the issue, BUT, what I have now discovered is everything works with the first press of a button if I power the camera on in "Auto" mode, which I never use anyway, so it doesn't resolve my problem really! Whatever it is doesn't affect the shots I am taking, so I'll live with it for now, and start setting some cash aside for a new body
