Hello everyone - first post from myself, apologies, but this seems to be a great place to get some advice. I did a shoot last week, all was fine. I used 2 x RF lenses all day & finished with an EF wide angle lens with an adapter (group shot). No problems at all.

I went to my camera bag today and the camera was showing an image but it was all over the place and blurred (same lens - not removed) - I changed the lens powered it up and same thing. It now shows power, makes a noise on my lens (35mm 1.8) but does nothing else.

The shutters on the sensor are not moving and the sensor is rattling about when it is lightly shaken. At first I assumed it was set in place & had come loose, but it seems that it has a flawed IBIS system that is used to stabilize the sensor & I think this might have failed? I am only an hour in and know very little, so any help on this matter would be grand.

I don't think that it needs a new sensor as that looks fine, but I might be wrong. I guess my main concerns are:

1: why is it not even turning on.
2: why is the sensor shutter protection things not closing?
3: will I have to change the IBIS and sensor or use the sensor (if thats the problem).

Its a bit worrying as I have not found anything that explains my issues - suggesting this is rare. i have contacted Canon for help, its not in warranty though. I cant claim on house insurance and do not have business insurance.

If it is a case of a swap out then I am happy to swallow the cost of that and do it myself & swallow the cost as they are £500 on Alibaba, but hopefully I can find some used examples with low shutter count? .

Apologies for my naivety with this & I really appreciate anyone that can offer me some sound information, contacts or advice.

Edit. OK I got it to turn on now and I can see the image from the view finder. Plus the protection things came down on the sensor. Plus its not wobbling as much when turned on so thankfully I can rule out the IBIS and/or sensor for now - as the camera is not responding to anything, but it is showing an moving image as I move the camera and lens about!!

BUT nothing is functioning from the camera at all?? I am pressing all the buttons and nothing. I have even just turned it off and its still on. Interesting when I switch h from auto, manual etc. things change a bit. I am wondering if this might be a software issue?? Maybe a reset of some sort might be an idea??? No code, warnings or anything.

And it has not had water damage, which would be my first question.

Sorry me again. I am 3 hours in now and think it must be something to do with my adapter I used. I thought it was related which was why i mentioned it in my first post. This guy has bought the canon adapter. Although I am facing the issue where my camera does not function at all so its quite different in many ways.

After trial and error i have solved this.

I changed the SD card and it works fine. I took out the main SD card after the shoot and left the second one in. I suspect its a combination of that and the Viltrox F mount issue in the video above ^^^ also the strange images I was seeing from the view finder before it shut down completely was quite frankly strange?? The sensor moving about when off is normal aparently - never noticed it before. I only thought that due to the strange view I was getting before it shut off!!

so - remove the battery - remove the SD card & add the battery & power on with no SD.

    Adapters can bring problems.

I have a Samyang 10mm lens with an EF mount which I used successfully on my Canon 5DIV.

When I bought my R5, I mounted the lens on the Canon EF-RF converter and popped it on the R5 expectiung a seamless transition - it was not to be.

The combined adapter & lens bricked the camera and I had to remove them before I could turn it off.

The solution was was a cheap "dumb" adapter which only addresses the mechanical interface, rather than trying to cope with the electronics as the Canon one does.

    Your mileage may vary........
