Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum but have been an enthusiastic amateur photographer for 60 years. Recently I have used my Android phone to take photos of old 35mm coloured slides on a light table. The colour balance on many of the slides is lacking, so I thought I'd try to use Digital Pho Professional 4 (Windows 11) to improve the quality of some of the captures. I haven't tried it before. When I load the thumbnails, many of them show wierd colour bands, and in several cases all I get is a large ?. Other photo apps under windows don't show these unusual effects. If I select one of the thumbnails to load as an image in the workspace it appears with exactly the same visual defects as the thumbnail. So this triggers a few questions: is DPP4 under Windows 11 fully proven? Are there known jpeg compatibility issues with DPP4? Can I do anything to the jpeg files to get DPP4 to recognise the problem files? I've attached a screen shot (at least I'm going to try!) to see if any of you have experienced this before and, if so, what remedies you might have used Best wishes, Dave B
Maybe others have experience with DPP4 especially on windows 11, as i hardly use it in my workflow. I can tell you that DPP4 is a RAW image editor designed to take canon raw files open them apply adjustment and export to jpg. I'm not aware of it being able to handle jpgs very well at all, its not designed to edit jpgs. This allows people to get jpgs which can be edited in any free editor from their dslr. Since I use lightroom I dont use DPP4 very often unless they are one off shots that I don't plan in putting in catalog or collection.
DPP4 itself works on Windows 11, but its JPEG compatibility is limited. Have you tried other apps like Windows Photos or Paint? And also try to re-save them as standard JPEGs.
Yes, the images work properly with Windows Photo and Paint Shop Pro 7, from which I assume that My Android phone is generating "standard" jpeg files. I had hoped that DPP4 would be a suitable editor for my jpeg files, but given comments from another contributor I suspect that DPP4 won't help me address the image enhancements I was hoping for if I start with jpeg images. I've been experimenting with a couple of AI based software applications and they appear to work with my jpeg files, so I'll probably pursue that way forward.
cant help with the windows as i'm on Mac, for what its worth though i'm a jpeg only shooter, i only use ddp4 to organize and cull images, i did check out the grey point selection tool and it does work on jpeg images what i use for my jpeg edits is a stand alone photoshop elements, its a one off buy not a subscription, i'm just a hobby shooter so its not affordable to get a full blown sub version, very good for me with plenty of colour editability. as for the images you shown the most concerning are the banding and large? they point towards a incombatability of some sort but as mentioned hard to help as i'm on mac and use canon camera
