I just bought the mark iv canon 5D and paid $250 for the insurance for 3 years (accidental is included). It doesn't cover my lenses though. I'm thinking about calling back and returning the insurance. Do you guys have any suggestions on if the Camera is likely to have problems (non accidental) and if I should cancel it?
when i got my M50 and few lenses i made sure i had enough 'away from home' cover for the camera and lenses, mostly in-case of theft, think how much it cost to replace your lenses, speak to the insurance and make sure weither the amount is for the camera and lens as one or camera and lens as separate items. if its an away from home policy (as you probably covered under home contents) add the value of your phone too when you start to add up all the gear you have on you it comes to more than you think, memory cards extra batteries bags etc.
Do you mean insurance in case of accident or theft, or extended warranty in case the equipment develops a fault outside the normal warranty period?
This is not a simple answer, you would have to look at the details of the coverage. Is it the canon service called Carepak? I don't know their pricing, but i know it covers accidental water damage and free two way shipping to Canon. If you bought the coverage from the retailer it may be messier if you have to go through a 3rd party for repairs. Its a pretty modest investment for 3 years of coverage, but we don't know the fine print on this insurance you have.
