Something I've noticed on a lot of sites is that whenever someone posts an image that's hosted on imgur all I see is a blank violet square displaying the message "Content not viewable in your region". This turns out to be because imgur are in dispute with the UK government about our rules on displaying images of minors - they've decided that the easy way to avoid the issue is to stop any images from being shown in the UK. I'm not especially bothered about this - though it does mean I don't see some people's picture posts - but it can be a bit annoying for e.g. ads in the classifed section of the site. For some reason this site as a whole is blocked from web proxies, probably to prevent spam so I can't complain about it, so I can't pretend to be in the USA to take a look.

Out of interest, does the image below show as the violet square or as a picture? It's using the link I got from one of the listings in classified, since I didn't see the source code for the link I suspect that it's the URL for the "not viewable" image, not for the original ad.

Unfortunately you're also in the UK - it doesn't really help in working out what's happening.

ok - so it should theoretically be possible to use a web proxy or something to see the images. Doesn't seem to work on proxysite.com though. Might be a problem with the laptop I'm currently using, I'll try it on the Windows box tonight.
