if you are focusing the lens manually what are you using to view that? reason i suggested auto focus is the camera should focus 100% dead on if...
how are you setting it? do you allow the camera to auto focus then switch to manual mode so the focus is locked in then change the diopter?

with landscape (which i don't do) i would think the higher mp is going to be the one to go for, baring in mind the pixel density you have been use...
